Elmhurst’s Rock the Block Party returns Sept. 5-6
Elmhurst City Centre’s Rock the Block Party returns on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6. This family-friendly street festival features some of the best festival bands in the Midwest, local food vendors, and beer and wine tents.
It will be 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Schiller and York streets in downtown Elmhurst.
On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Family Fun Zone features free activities including a face painter, photo booth, arts and crafts, games, and more.
On Friday, Cary Kanno and the Elmhurst Syndicate will be opening the festival stage at 4 p.m. The acoustic guitarist will be joined Elmhurst musicians. Don Noverini on vocals, Nick Bisesi on sax, Matt Cotton on violin, and Eric Krums on bass.
The PriSSillas, the Chicago-based all-girl cover band, will take the stage at 5:15 p.m. followed at 7:15 p.m. by Hello Weekend, the party band which covers everything from Gaga to Guns N' Roses, Bruno Mars to The Beach Boys.
Rod Tuffcurls & the Bench Press will headline the first day of the festival at 9:15 p.m.
Saturday will open with a DJ Dance Party at 11 a.m., followed by Fearless The Taylor Tribute at 12:15 p.m.
At 2:30 p.m., The Disco Circus, a Chicago-based disco/funk tribute band performing the grooviest music from the 1970s, will take the stage.
Chicago’s Fletcher Rockwell will be performing classic Americana-tinged rock & roll steeped in the blue-collar charm of their hometown, at 4:30 p.m.
ARRA will deliver the classic rock experience at 6:30 p.m. Sixteen Candles will close out the festival with hits from the 1980s.
Admission and parking are free and there is no fee for ID wristbands for alcoholic beverages. All on-the-street restaurant vendors and event bars will accept credit/debit cards only. Rock the Block is cashless.

Street closures/parking
York Street will be closed from First to Second, Schiller Street from York Street to Commerce Parkway, and Commerce Parkway from First to Schiller from late Thursday, Sept. 4, through Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7.
Parking decks in City Centre will be open and accessible. All decks have handicap parking spots.
