Dad left 5-year-old home alone in Des Plaines, police say
A Des Plaines man was arrested Wednesday night after authorities discovered a 5-year-old boy had been left home alone, police said.
Edary Mendez-Funez, 28, of the 1500 block of Willow Avenue, is charged with endangering the life or health of a child, a misdemeanor.
The Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and Des Plaines police were contacted about the unattended child, according to a police news release.
The boy wasn’t injured.
Mendez-Funez reportedly had left the child alone because of work obligations and the cost of child care, police said.
Mendez-Funez was taken to the police station, processed and released.
