Cook County declares disaster from Aug. 16-19 storms

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle issued a disaster proclamation Wednesday in response to storms that hit the region Aug. 16-19, leading to severe flooding in suburbs including Mount Prospect.

The proclamation allows the county to pursue available resources to assist communities and residents in their recovery efforts.

“Cook County residents sustained significant damage due to severe storms that struck our community in August,” Preckwinkle said in a written statement. “This is the second significant severe storm and flooding event in less than a month.

More than 5,500 instances of damage to homes and businesses throughout Cook County have been reported as a result of the storms.
