Cougars beat Gary SouthShore in 12 innings
The Kane County Cougars beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 8-7 in 12 innings on Thursday.
The Cougars (46-50) took a 4-2 lead through three innings, but Gary scored the next three runs.
Kane County’s Casey Crosby took the mound in the ninth, and he kept the score at 5-4. With the Cougars down to their last out of the game in the bottom of the ninth, Zane Spinn walked. Marcus Chiu drove in Spinn to send it to extra innings.
After Gary went up 6-5 in the 10th, the Cougars answered in the bottom of the inning when Josh Allen drove in Trendon Craig pinch with a sacrifice fly.
Gary again led 7-6 in the 11th. Spinn then drove his second hit of the game to tie the game at 7.
Zach Veen entered the game in the 12th and shut down the RailCats. In the bottom of the inning, Blake Rutherford started at second. Alex McGarry was able to single his way aboard, and then Claudio Finol was intentionally walked to load the bases. Josh Allen drew a bases-loaded walk to win the game.
