No apology necessary
So, Ms. Steigleder was “extremely offended” by the cartoon in a recent edition of the Daily Herald depicting Trump in Putin's hand.
When Putin invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, Trump called it “a great move.” Trump boasted, in more than 50 campaign rallies, press interviews and Fox News appearances, stridently and confidently, that he could end the war “on Day One.” Now he says he was “only jesting.”
Prior to the Alaska meeting, Trump warned that there would be “severe consequences” if Putin did not agree to a ceasefire. As Jeff Robbins wrote in his Aug. 21 column, “There was no agreement. There was no evidence that there was anything close to an agreement. There wasn't even any indication of what was discussed.”
Afterward, Trump boasted about what “great progress”” had been made. There was no talk of any “severe consequences.” Trump even reverted to blaming Ukraine for the war.
Trump admires and defers to Putin. He's a fraud and an embarrassment. He's out of his league. The cartoon hit the note perfectly. The Daily Herald owes “us” no apology.
