What actions are saying about us

My power went out last Saturday due to the storm. Trying to sleep in the 90 degree heat and high humidity was nearly impossible. The next night when my power went on and I had air conditioning again, I realized how fortunate I was.

I couldn’t sleep in my king size bed because I had no air conditioning. I still had food and water, but this was unbearable. I then thought about the conditions the homeless live in. No air conditioning, no king-size bed, no toilet, no running water and little or no food.

Trump wants these people out of Washington now. “They are disgusting.” Pope Leo invites them for lunch at his summer villa.

I thought about how Florida has fun naming Alligator Alcatraz and Deportation Depot, putting immigrants in conditions unfit for human beings. Most of these people are there because our country takes years to process citizenship paperwork, ultimately making them illegal.

I thought about Palestinians waiting with an old pot just to get some food. About how USAID cuts in Africa reduced the limit from three bags of rice down to one bag of rice per person per month. (At least we have lots of gold in the White House).

I think maybe Donald Trump and everyone in his cabinet should be forced to live without electricity for at least 24 hours in 90 degree heat and high humidity. It would be even better if they were forced to sleep on cots or on the floor. Finally, let them see how far a cup of rice goes for a full day’s meal.

These people call themselves Christians. Actions speak louder than words. Maybe they should invite the homeless and the immigrants into their homes for dinner.
