Prosecutors: Woman drove 109 mph trying to flee police
A woman accused of fleeing Villa Park police in a stolen vehicle Tuesday told officers she “knows how DuPage County is” and would rather be in Chicago, prosecutors said.
Molly Borowski, 31, of the 1800 block of South Hamlin Avenue in Chicago, appeared Tuesday in DuPage County court, where a judge ordered her to be jailed while awaiting trial.
Authorities say that at about 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, a Villa Park police officer tried to stop a vehicle, which had been reported stolen, near North and Joyce avenues. The driver, who authorities later alleged was Borowski, fled at speeds up to 109 mph while driving through red lights. The vehicle continued to drive even when the tires were deflated with spike strips, officials said.
The pursuit came to an end on I-290, where Borowski was arrested, according to prosecutors said. She is charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding and possession of burglary tools, authorities said. All are felonies.
According to a prosecutor’s petition to detain her, police said they found four credit cards issued to other people and a credit card reader/programmer device in the vehicle. They also found a window punch in Borowski’s purse, prosecutors allege.
Her next court date is Sept. 22.
