Parade, music, carnival highlight Buffalo Grove Days festival
Buffalo Grove Days returns this week featuring live music, carnival rides, a parade, activities and contests.
Hours are 5-10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28; 5-11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29; 10:45 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31; and 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, at Mike Rylko Community Park, 1000 Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove. Here are some of the festival highlights.
Music lineup
The festival’s main stage lineup includes: Friday: Hi Infidelity at 6 p.m. and 90s Pop Nation at 8:30 p.m.; Saturday: 7th heaven at 3:30 p.m., LP Vinyl Escape at 6 p.m. and Dancing Queen at 8:30 p.m.; Sunday: Fearless at 3:30 p.m., Beyond the Blond at 6 p.m. and Mike & Joe at 8:30 p.m.; and Monday: Blackberry Jam at noon.
Parade
The Buffalo Grove Days Parade will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. It marches south on Buffalo Grove Road (from LaSalle), then west on Deerfield Parkway, ending at Mike Rylko Community Park. The announcer booth is at the corner of Buffalo Grove Road and Deerfield Parkway.
Carnival
The carnival takes place all five days of the festival, with wristbands and special pricing available. Prices range from $1.25 for one ride to $75 for a megaband for unlimited rides all festival. See bgdays.com/carnival for details and to purchase wristbands in advance.
Other activities
There will be Rotary bingo at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, featuring 10 games with a prize purse of $1,600. The “Meet Me on Main Street” craft fair and business expo is from 5-10 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, a community blood drive will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive. Also on Saturday. Puzzle Palooza, in which teams of up to three people will compete to finish a 300-piece or 500-piece puzzle; a bags tournament from 3 to 4:30 p.m.; and a Buddy Baseball exhibition game from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Kendrigan Field at Rick Drazner Park, 401 Aptakisic Road.
On Sunday, enter your pup in the dog show at 10:45 a.m. near the pickleball court. Dogs can win awards in categories such as best costume, biggest or smallest dog, best groomed, best trick, best treat-catcher, best tunnel-run and waggiest tail.
From noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, there will be children’s entertainment including face painting, a foam party, police dog demo and a petting zoo.
The Rotary Duck Race, a charity fundraiser, will be at 5:15 p.m.
