1860 Wide Awakes featured at annual Lakeside Cemetery walk
The 1860 Wide Awakes are the subject of a walk Sept. 6 at Lakeside Cemetery, 600 Lake St., Libertyville.
The annual event, hosted by the Libertyville Historical Society and Lakeside Cemetery Association, this year will focus on the lives and legacies of six residents with ties to the one-of-a-kind 1860 Wide Awakes silk banner on display in the Ansel B. Cook Home.
The banner represents the village’s leadership in a nationwide movement that helped elect Abraham Lincoln.
Sixty-minute tours start at 2, 2:20, 2:40 and 3 p.m. Cost is $5 for society members and $10 for nonmembers. Visit https://www.libertyvillehistory.org/ to register.
