Elgin Izaak Walton donates $100k to Gail Borden children’s area renovation

The Elgin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America presented a $100,000 check donation to the Gail Borden Foundation to be used in the renovation of the children’s area of the library.

The donation will help create a park-like setting for the winding river, pebble pond and picnic areas at the open sky park.

The Elgin Chapter was instrumental in helping to create the two islands in the river below the dam called the Walton Islands, which can be seen from the library windows.

The Elgin Chapter signed its charter in 1937 to become part of the national organization and has a rich history of conservation efforts in the community.

The club sponsors both a Cub Pack, Boy Scout Troop, and a Venturing Crew. The lodge is at the confluence of Willow and Poplar creeks. Meetings and programs are held at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St. See the calendar for meeting times and dates at sites.google.com/site/elginchapter/.
