Want 2027 All-Star Game tickets at Wrigley Field? The Cubs have a plan for that
If you’re wondering how to get tickets to the 2027 MLB All-Star Game at Wrigley Field, here’s a tip: You should already have season tickets to the Chicago Cubs and you should be ready to renew them as part of a three-year plan.
On Thursday, the Cubs sent out invoices and information to their season-ticket holder base with details on 2025 postseason plans, renewals for 2026 and an option to do multiyear renewals that guarantee All-Star tickets.
Cale Vennum, the senior vice president of Marquee Sports & Entertainment, told The Athletic the Cubs have the largest season-ticket base in baseball and around the 18th-highest capacity at Wrigley. You can see the problem here when it comes to an All-Star Game, which hasn’t been at Wrigley Field since 1990.
“It’s going to create a natural constraint here at Wrigley,” Vennum said. “So we’re still working through the exact details with the league on the exact quantity of tickets that we’re going to have, but it’s MLB’s event and they get a huge number of tickets for it. They’ll actually get more tickets for an All-Star week than they would for a World Series at Wrigley Field.”
Even with that uncertainty, Vennum said full-season ticket holders who renew for three years will get guaranteed access to the entire week’s worth of events. Half-season and combo plan holders can pick either the Home Run Derby or the actual game, while 20-game and “double play” plans will get access to the Saturday event, which is typically the Futures Game.
Ticket holders who don’t opt for the three-year plan could still get access to tickets, but they won’t be guaranteed.
Club seat holders at Wrigley already sign multiyear contracts. But this process will help give the fans and the team certainty well before 2027.
“It’s something we’ve considered for a while and once we started having conversations with the league about the All-Star Game, something we knew to be true was there’s going to be more demand for tickets than we will have access to,” Vennum said. “We wanted to make sure the tickets we do have access to got into the hands of our fans who are going to be here for a long time and reward them with access to the All-Star week. This felt like a way to do that.”
Ticket holders who opt for the three-year plan will get a 3% cap on price increases in 2027 and 2028. As for 2026 prices, Cubs season tickets are going up by an average of 6%, Vennum said, with a range of 5% to 8% across the ballpark. Ticket prices are already at or near the top in baseball, but that hasn’t slowed business too much.
Going into Thursday’s series finale with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cubs have averaged 37,616 fans a game, or 984 more than this point last year, according to Baseball-Reference data. They have drawn more than 40,000 fans 22 times this year, not including the two “home” games in Japan.
No one doubts that the demand for All-Star festivities will be intense, considering the popularity of Wrigley Field as a tourist destination.
But the big question that no one can answer right now is: Will the game actually be played in 2027? A lockout looms after the current CBA expires in 2026. So getting fans to commit now makes more sense for the Cubs rather than waiting for next year when labor issues will be the leading story in baseball. But what happens if the game isn’t played in 2027? In a recent radio appearance, Cubs president Crane Kenney said the game would likely be moved to 2029 in that scenario.
“We’re operating as if there will be no impact to the 2027 season,” a team spokesperson told The Athletic. “Should things change and MLB decide to host the event in a different year, we’ll make adjustments at that time and honor our commitment to (season-ticket holders).”
The deadline to put down a deposit for playoff tickets is Sept. 17, and credit for any unplayed games will go toward the deposit for 2026 tickets. For any season-ticket holder who doesn’t want playoff tickets, the deadline for 2026 tickets is Sept. 24.
The Cubs haven’t hosted a playoff series since the 2017 National League Championship Series, and it’s still up in the air if they will host one this year.
Going into Thursday, the Cubs trailed the Brewers by six games in the NL Central and had a two-game lead over the San Diego Padres for the top spot in the wild-card race.
The Cubs will host the best-of-three wild-card series if they keep that spot among the three wild-card teams or have the third-best record among division winners. If they come back to win the Central and have one of the two best records in the NL, they would get a bye to the best-of-five divisional round.
