Playhouse 38 holds auditions for fall comedy

Individuals, ages 18 or older, are invited to participate in auditions for the fall production of the hilarious comedy “The One Act Play That Goes Wrong” at Geneva Park District’s community theater, Playhouse 38. No experience is necessary and all skill levels are welcome.

Auditions will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 at Playhouse 38, 321 Stevens St., Suite P. There is no cost to register as a performer, and registration is available now at GenevaParks.org by using activity code 5211703-01. Walk-ins are welcome!

Individuals interested in auditioning are asked to prepare a 1- to 2-minute monologue or be ready to read from the script.

From Mischief, Broadway masters of comedy, comes the smash hit farce. Welcome to opening night of the Cornley University Drama Society’s newest production, “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” where things quickly go from bad to disastrous. This 1920s whodunit has everything you never wanted in a show — an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines). Nevertheless, the accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to make it through the 75-minute, one-act production to their final curtain call, with hilarious consequences!

Directors Carolyn Goldsmith and Alex Simko are no strangers to Playhouse 38, and they are eager to be back, teaming up for this very funny production. “I'm really excited to be working on a show that has such complex staging,” Simko said. “As someone who loves all things backstage related, I'm thrilled to take on this technical challenge to create something really engaging for audience members.”

Goldsmith agrees and shares: “We can’t wait to bring you this uproarious homage to the true and utter hilarity of live theater.”

Rehearsals will typically be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m.

Performances will be 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24; 7 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1; and 3 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2.

Tickets will be on sale Sept. 2 for $15 in advance or $20 day-of. Individuals are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at GenevaParks.org/Playhouse or in person at Sunset Community Center or Stephen Persinger Recreation Center.

Concessions will be available for purchase during the event, including snacks, popcorn, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages.
