Authorities: Man led police on high-speed chase in stolen vehicle

A Chicago man is being detained pretrial after being accused of leading Villa Park police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle.

Louis Robinson, 30, of the 2900 block of West Warren Boulevard, is charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, a Class 4 felony.

Villa Park police say they received information around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday that a Kia Optima reported stolen in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was in the area. Carol Stream police had found it in an apartment complex parking lot and tried to block it in, according to a prosecutor’s petition to detain Robinson pretrial.

An officer tried to pull it over at North and Joyce avenues. The Kia drove east on North at speeds up to 118 mph. Authorities say it went through three red lights and entered I-290. Police used three tire-deflating stop sticks to disable it.

They say Robinson ran off but was found 20 minutes later in a garbage bin in Hillside.

According to the detention petition, the vehicle belonged to someone with whom Robinson previously had a relationship.
