Local teacher honored for 25 years at Elgin’s St. John’s Lutheran School
As the new school year begins, St. John’s Lutheran Church and School celebrated a special milestone.
During the Aug. 17 service to install the faculty, staff, and school board of St. John’s Lutheran School, they honored Linda Childers, who is celebrating 25 years of joyful and faithful service to the Elgin school. After the service, worshippers gathered to offer thanks to the longtime preschool teacher.
Childers, a lifelong member of the church, has been a beloved presence in the lives of countless students and families. She and her three children all attended St. John’s Lutheran School from preschool and kindergarten through eighth grade.
Childers, who has been teaching preschool since 1999, graduated on the dean’s list from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi (an Honor Society in Education) and Mu Alpha Theta (a National Mathematics Club).
Childers makes sure each child receives the genuine, loving care and attention needed to learn and grow and is very skilled at working with each individual student at their own level. She makes sure that her preschool students develop a love for learning by doing a lot of creative hands-on activities.
St. John’s Lutheran School is a fully accredited and state of Illinois recognized school, offering preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds, full-day kindergarten and first grade. Before and after school care is available at an affordable cost.
