Ash, Cougars hammer Kansas City

Konnor Ash pitched another gem for the Kane County Cougars in Sunday’s 8-1 victory over Kansas City.

He threw seven shutout innings with five strikeouts and is now 7-0 pitching at Northwestern Medicine Field with an ERA of 2.18.

For the first time in this series, the Cougars (41-46) put up the first run of the game. Zane Spinn worked a walk, and advanced to third on a single from Marcus Chiu. Armond Upshaw then had an infield single to score Spinn.

The Cougars increased the lead to 4-0 in the second. Oscar Santos led off with a walk, and Andy Armstrong added a bunt single. Trendon Craig then roped a single to score Santos. After a sacrifice bunt, Upshaw drove in two runs with a single.

Armstrong added an RBI single in the third to push the lead to 5-0.

Casey Crosby entered the game for the Cougars in the ninth and shut the door to seal the 8-1 win and series victory for Kane County.
