Ninth-inning rally falls short for Chicago Dogs

Despite a ninth-inning rally, the Chicago Dogs came up just short on Friday night, losing the first game of their final homestand of the season at the hands of the Gary SouthShore RailCats by a final of 5-4.

Despite retiring the first nine batters of the game, Keoni Cavaco ran into some trouble the second time through the order. The RailCats scored five runs in just two innings, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the fifth.

Cavaco’s final line included six innings, four earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts. Eric Lin and Zach Davidson combined for a scoreless seventh inning, Davidson pitched a scoreless eighth, and Trey Braithwaite polished off a nice night for the Dogs bullpen, hurling a scoreless ninth.
