No one hurt in overnight Des Plaines house fire

A Des Plaines house was left uninhabitable by a fire Tuesday night, officials said.

No one was hurt in the blaze on the 2200 block of Cedar Street.

The fire was reported about 10:15 p.m. Three residents who were home at the time were able to escape safely, and then one called 911, according to a Des Plaines Fire Department news release.

The fire started in a detached garage, which was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, according to officials. The blaze was spreading to the single-story house by then, too.

Crews from Des Plaines and two other suburban departments got the fire under control by 10:50 p.m., but it took hours to extinguish it. Firefighters finally cleared the scene about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Chief Matt Matzl said.

While the fire didn’t appear suspicious, it remained under investigation Wednesday, Matzl said.

Damage to the house and contents was estimated at $200,000.
