Road closure in Palatine extended to Sept. 2

The closure of Wilke Road in Palatine — also known as West Route 53 Frontage Road — has been extended until Sept. 2, as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation's ongoing improvements of Route 53.

The road had initially been scheduled to reopen earlier this month.

The closure affects a stretch of Wilke from Claremont Drive to Victoria Drive. A posted detour directs traffic to use East Frontage Road from Palatine Road to Rand Road.

The closure is necessary to allow for storm sewer construction work on Route 53, officials said. For more information, contact IDOT District 1 at (847) 705-4600.
