Bensenville Police Chief Schulze appointed as village manager

Bensenville trustees unanimously voted to appoint Dan Schulze as village manager during their July 29 board meeting.

Schulze had served Bensenville jointly as police chief and interim village manager before the appointment.

As village manager, Schulze will receive an annual base salary of $225,000.

A veteran of 40 years in municipal government and 30 years as a supervisor, Schulze had been named Bensenville’s acting village manager in 2024.

The appointment comes after Bensenville voters indicated their preference to maintain a village manager form of government in a March 2025 referendum.

With his appointment as permanent village manager, Schulze stepped down from his position as police chief.

Detective Sgt. Bradley Swanson, a 25-year veteran of the Bensenville Police Department, was sworn in on July 29 as the new chief.

A former police chief in Schiller Park, Schulze replaced former Bensenville Police Chief Frank Kosman after he retired in 2018.

Schulze remained as police chief after he was named interim village manager.

“Serving as both interim village manager and police chief showcased Dan’s commitment to the community, and (his) ability to lead through extraneous circumstances made him the obvious choice to remain as village manager,” Village President Frank DeSimone said in a news release.

“His long track record of serving in municipal government, leading two police departments and pushing for continued innovation, has led to great strides in helping communities grow,” DeSimone said.

“We are thrilled to have Dan step into this role and continue to make Bensenville a stronger, more united community.”
