Learn more about the Catholic faith with St. Catherine of Siena

A program, The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, formerly named The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 845 W. Main St. in West Dundee.

The OCIA program introduces those interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and becoming Catholic leading to baptism or admission into the Catholic Church. It also serves as the vehicle for Catholics who are missing any of their Sacraments of Initiation, such as baptism, Eucharist, and confirmation, to prepare and receive those blessed Sacraments.

The OCIA program is free and open to anyone willing to commit and devote the time necessary to the program, which will continue every Thursday evening after the first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a light dinner included, through Christmas.

After Christmas, the program transitions to meeting on Sundays starting with the 9:30 a.m. celebration of Mass until noon. Classes will continue weekly until the night before Easter (Easter Vigil) on Saturday, April 19, when the catechumens, or candidates to the Catholic faith, are baptized and formally brought into the Church.

To find out more about the OCIA program, contact Deacon Henry (Hank) Schmalen at hschmal@comcast.net.
