Kavanagh Gallery exhibit features sculptures by over 30 artists

Currently on display in the Kavanagh Gallery at the Fine Line Creative Arts Center is an impressive sculpture show featuring work by over 30 artists. This collection showcases diverse artistic styles.

This is John Lo’s first time showing at the Kavanagh Gallery. Lo discovered his passion for ceramics after retiring in 2014. His artistic journey spans a variety of forms, including functional pottery, sculptures, and installations.

In this show, he features two pieces. The first piece, titled “Ready to Fly,” is a wood-fired, wheel-thrown porcelain moon jar with a pedestal. A handcrafted ceramic bird perches atop the jar, poised to take flight. The second piece is called “Koi #6.” This impressive ceramic sculpture of a koi fish measures 29 inches by 36 inches by 16 inches. Its surface is textured with stamped fish scales and vibrant graphics, and it rests on a wooden base.

Another artist, Kirsten Edwards, also selected a fish theme for her artwork titled “Pufferfish.” This is her first time showing at the Kavanagh Gallery. The sculpture portrays a puffer fish in its natural environment, carved from tupelo wood, and is both airbrushed and hand-painted for added detail.

Fredric Klingelhofer is an artist who has previously exhibited at the Kavanagh Gallery. He aims to give even small sculptures an architectural presence that invites exploration. This intention is evident in his piece, “Common Thread.” The work features three abstract figures that interact not only through their positioning on the base but also by being bound together with wire, symbolizing the interconnectedness of people.

The exhibition showcases a stunning collection of sculptures that are available for viewing and purchase. As with all shows at the Kavanagh Gallery, admission is free, and everyone is welcome to attend.

“Sculpture at the Kavanagh Gallery” is open to the public from Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the arts center, 37WS570 Bolcum Road, just west of Randall Road in St. Charles. There is no charge to view the artwork.
