Senior Swing Scramble returns to promote healthy aging

Tee off for a day of friendship and fun on the course during the 4th annual City of Lights Senior Swing Scramble.

Set for Monday, Aug. 11, with a continental breakfast at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., the event takes place at Phillips Park Golf Course, 1001 Hill Ave., Aurora. The tournament is open to adults age 60 and over.

“It’s more than a tournament, it’s a gathering that promotes well-being, camaraderie and quality of life for older adults,” said event founder Katrina Boatright, Manager, Senior and Disability Services for the City of Aurora. “What makes it truly unique is its focus — not just the game of golf, but on celebrating active aging through friendly competition, connection, community resources and pure fun.”

Boatright said participants can expect a high energy, welcoming atmosphere with vendors offering senior-focused resources, unique raffle prizes and a strong show of support from community members committed to advocating for local seniors.

“This event is important because it celebrates active aging and creates a vibrant space where older adults can connect, engage and feel empowered,” Boatright said. “It promotes physical wellness, social engagement and increased awareness of local resources. The Senior Swing Scramble is a testament to what’s possible when a community comes together to honor, invest in and uplift its senior residents.”

The Senior Swing Scramble helps to highlight the importance of celebrating and investing in the senior community, Boatright said.

“By 2030, one in every five people in the U.S. will be 65 or older,” she said. “By 2035, there will be more adults over 65 than children under 18. This shift calls for intentional spaces that uplift, engage, and support our senior residents.”

The tournament is made possible by generous supporters that include Gerald Kia of North Aurora — the event’s Hole-in-One sponsor.

“Gerald Kia of North Aurora has been a valued and trusted partner for the past three years, playing a key role in enhancing the experience of our Senior Swing Scramble participants,” Boatright said. “As our official Hole-in-One sponsor, Gerald brings an added level of excitement, prestige and fun to the event — something we look forward to every year.”

Donna Lawler of the Gerald Auto Group said Gerald Kia of North Aurora is thrilled to be part of this year’s tournament.
