A powerful finish to the McHenry County Fair

The McHenry County Fair was dragged across the finish line Sunday, as a tractor and truck pull highlighted the final day of the annual celebration of the region’s agricultural past and present.

Put on by ILLINI State Pullers, the event featured tractor and truck drivers putting their machines to the test in a competition of strength and speed.

“The tractors are cool,” Ben Mertes, 5, of Cary, said during a quick break in the action. “I like it when they do wheelies.”

Elsewhere, fairgoers could check out the 4H Master Showmanship Contest, watch a doughnut-eating competition or just visit with the farm animals, enjoy a carnival ride or two, and dine on some local cuisine … all leading up to a fair-ending demolition derby.
