Republican Kate McGrath to run for 29th state Senate seat

Deerfield resident Kate McGrath on Friday announced she’ll seek the Republican nomination for the 29th state Senate District seat in 2026.

“Our state’s priorities are upside down and Illinois is at a breaking point,” McGrath said in a news release. “Families are being squeezed by rising taxes, higher prices, and job-killing policies that are driving opportunity out of our state. I’m running to be a voice for the people who feel like no one in Springfield is listening.”

An insurance agent, McGrath has never before run for elected office.

Democrat Julie Morrison of Lake Forest has represented the 29th District since 2013.

The 29th District includes much of eastern Cook and Lake counties.
