The high costs of removing immigrants
Despite numerous TV warnings that immigrants are crime-ridden and the president calling them blood thirsty, the latest Gallup poll found that 79% of Americans feel immigrants are a good thing. Numerous surveys find that areas with high numbers of immigrants have crime rates lower than those with no immigrants.
Pictures of masked ICE agents arresting and beating laborers who are not criminals, but are rounded up because of their skin color are not convincing the masses to deport them. There is sympathy here for those living here and paying taxes for many years. And who is going to replace them to pick our crops and build our homes?
Another shocking fact according to the American Immigration Council is the predicted cost of $967 billion for a decadelong program to remove all 13 million immigrants. That comes to $74,384 for each one removed. With reckless spending like this, it is easy to see why the Big Beautiful Bill has had to drastically cut Medicaid payments.
I doubt if there would have been support for this program had people understood the cost.
The border is secure. Let’s work on global warming, inflation, income inequality and the wars he promised to end on his first day in office.
