Feds charge Aurora man who bit Kane deputy during ICE arrest

An Aurora man is facing federal charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer after authorities said he kicked, head-butted and bit local and federal officers trying to arrest him.

According to court papers, Francisco Javier Acevedo-Caldera, 39, was in the lobby of the Kane County sheriff’s office July 17 after being released from jail when he was met by agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations serving an arrest warrant.

An indictment alleges Acevedo-Caldera became combative and kicked one officer, head-butted another and bit a Kane County sheriff’s deputy who prosecutors said “offered to assist the ICE-ERO officers.”

Acevedo-Caldera remains in federal custody. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
