Armed carjacking reported in Des Plaines

Des Plaines police are investigating a carjacking that reportedly occurred early Sunday outside a hotel on the 3000 block of South Mannheim Road.

Three people in a black 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the lot behind the hotel after midnight were approached by four men, who ordered them out of the vehicle at gunpoint, according to a news release.

The occupants complied and turned over the keys, police said. The thieves fled in the Jeep, which was later recovered by Maywood police.

All four thieves wore dark clothes and at least two had ski masks, police said. Three were described as “skinny” and one had a larger build.
