Waukegan man faces charges after police chase
A Waukegan man who authorities said fled police from several agencies throughout the day Wednesday faces numerous traffic infractions after being apprehended in Waukegan.
A female passenger of Lake Villa faces drug charges following a chase that ended Wednesday evening in Waukegan.
Felix Guadarrama, 31, also was charged with four felony counts of aggravated fleeing to elude after being taken into custody by Lake County sheriff’s deputies following a chase of more than 20 minutes.
According to Lake County sheriff’s Deputy Chief Chris Covelli, a deputy about 5:35 p.m. saw a GMC Envoy heading west on Grand Avenue near Route 21 in Gurnee and confirmed Guadarrama as the driver.
Earlier in the day, Guadarrama was seen inside a stolen Ford Explorer in Mundelein reportedly armed with a firearm, Covelli said.
The stolen vehicle fled from several police agencies throughout the day before being recovered abandoned in Lake Forest.
Investigators determined Guadarrama abandoned the stolen Explorer and got into the GMC Envoy, Covelli said. The Envoy fled after a deputy attempted a traffic stop in Gurnee prompting a pursuit.
The fleeing Envoy sideswiped two vehicles at low speed while attempting to pass through traffic near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Dilleys Road. The vehicle lost a front tire and rim but continued to flee for about 20 minutes, Covelli said.
He said the pursuit ended when Guadarrama’s vehicle crashed with a Toyota Camry in the intersection of Glen Flora Road and Lewis Avenue in Waukegan. Guadarrama and a female passenger, Brianna Koch, 22, of the 700 block of Frontage Road, Lake Villa, fled on foot but were apprehended after a brief chase.
The Camry driver was taken to a hospital with minor, nonlife-threatening injuries.
Guadarrama resisted during his apprehension and was shocked with a Taser by deputies, Covelli said. He was held pending a detention hearing Thursday afternoon.
Koch had 24 grams of methamphetamine and 10 grams of cocaine and was charged with unlawful possession of each, both felonies, Covelli said.
She was released with an Aug. 19 court date.
