Sky Zone to fill vacant anchor space at Gurnee Mills
Sky Zone, which owns, operates and franchises indoor active entertainment parks across the U.S. and Canada, will be expanding its footprint in the Chicago area by opening in Gurnee Mills.
The chain is planning a 40,000-square-foot facility in the anchor space formerly occupied by The RoomPlace, which closed in December after six years at Gurnee Mills.
An opening date has not been announced.
The originator of the trampoline park, Sky Zone started with a single park in 2004. Through growth and acquisitions it has become the self-described largest active entertainment company in the world with Sky Zone and its brands hosting more than 40 million guests annually.
In December, Sky Zone opened its ninth location in the Chicago area in the 32,000-square-foot former Buy Buy Baby space at 580 E. Golf Road in Schaumburg. A press release at the time said additional parks were set to open in coming months in Lincoln Park and Arlington Heights.
A new Sky Zone also has been cleared by Algonquin officials to operate in the former RoomPlace, 2471 S. Randall Road.
“The greater Chicago area is one of our key regions for development, and opening at Gurnee Mills allows us to bring the Sky Zone experience to even more families in the area,” said Mike Revak, chief operating officer.
“We recently opened in Lincoln Park and have exciting plans for continued growth across Illinois as part of our multiyear expansion strategy,” he added.
In Lake County, the chain has operated for several years at Rivertree Court strip center, 701 N. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills.
At Gurnee Mills, favorites such as Air Court and Boulder Balls, as well as the new iWall, an immersive game experience along with a toddler area, dodgeball, family and race slide and other attractions will be featured.
Memberships, birthday party packages, group events and single-visit jumps will be available at the Gurnee Mills site. The new location also will have multiple private party rooms and a Fuel Zone food and beverage area.
“As we continue our commitment to the community and our center, we are thrilled to welcome yet another entertainment option for our visitors,” Gurnee Mills' General Manager Peter Abraham said in a news release.
