Former Auroran Marlis Hutchinson marks milestone 100th birthday

With a tiara and “100 and Fabulous” sash, Marlis Hutchinson celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday.

With live music, food and lots of friends and relatives, the party took place at her current residence, Millstone Monarch Landing in Naperville.

Hutchinson is a former longtime Auroran. She was active in the community and former Fourth Street United Methodist Church of Aurora for many years.

Guests included her children, Bill Weiss of Frisco, Tex; Beth Carter, Aurora; and Julie Kolanoski, Wheaton.

Taking a deep breath, she blew out three candles on a library-themed birthday cake.

Special music was provided by the Oswegoland Park District Senior Singers. Sue Gilla of Aurora directed the 30-voice a cappella group (although two ukeles accompanied one number).

Emcee Joyce Schomer of Aurora told jokes. Soloist Catherine Rock of Sugar Grove sang and led a sing-along.
