Join events to honor voting rights icon
If you still think our country should be run by the will of the people through voting and free speech, please join an event near you July 17 to commemorate the late voting right activist John Lewis. These events are happening in nearly every northern Illinois town and Chicago neighborhood.
If you can’t help swell the crowd at an event, be sure show your support when you pass by one. And notice, as you did on May 1 and June 14, that people just like you are showing up to say “enough is enough,” especially now that the extended and expanded tax cut for the rich was signed, clearly showing the priorities of the current majority in Congress and their puppet masters.
To continue with the assignment, pay attention in the coming months and years to how those cruel priorities impact people just like you and yours. As just one example, the disregard and defunding we are seeing for the environment and science are increasing tragic disasters such as flooding, outbreaks such as measles (which had been eradicated), closures of health care facilities, loss of clean energy jobs and on and on. Then take action and of course, vote.
We have a limited window to take action as individuals, to defend our vote and the independence of our three government branches, so that we do not end up trapped under cruel authoritarian oligarchs, like in other countries that we never expected to compare ourselves to.
