Wheeling Township mental health board seeking grant applicants

The Wheeling Township Community Mental Health Board is now accepting grant applications from agencies that serve township residents with needs related to mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or substance use disorder.

The deadline for applying is Aug. 1.

The mental health board was approved by voters in 2022. It is funded through Wheeling Township.

“I see our Community Mental Health Board as an important way to help care for our neighbors who are most in need and are challenged with mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities or substance use disorders,” said Sue Hayes, mental health board president. “We strongly encourage any organization that serves our residents through these specialties to apply for a grant to support either ongoing initiatives, or projects that will further benefit our community.”

An assessment of services in Wheeling Township conducted by Harper College found needs are not currently being met locally. That’s due, in large part, to a shortage of service providers or budget constraints of providers, Hayes said.
