Family Focus hosts back-to-school event with supplies, eye exams

Family Focus, an Aurora nonprofit, will hold a back-to-school fair Saturday, July 12.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the agency's office, 1444 N. Farnsworth Ave., Suite 200. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.

Featured will be free backpacks filled with school supplies and eye exams for youth ages 6 months to 6 years old. Children must attend to receive backpacks.

Aurora Lions Club members will conduct vision exams using a handheld Plusoptix screener. The device checks eye health of kids for near-sightedness, called myopia; far-sightedness, hyperopia; and astigmatism, egg-shaped eye.

Adults are notified if a screening indicates a vision problem that requires a comprehensive exam.

Vision cameras are supported by a grant from Lions International Foundation. The effort is part of Lions Kidsight USA, community eye-screening for children sponsored by Lions Clubs International.
