Aurora nonprofit hosts summer concert fundraiser
A Summer Concert in the Park fundraiser will be held by 100 Girls Like Us Inc., an Aurora nonprofit serving girls, ages 5 to 17.
Celebrating “Welcome to our Rodeo,” the event will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at Greene Field Park, 774 W. Illinois Ave. in Aurora. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free. Donations will be accepted. Attendees should bring lawn chairs.
The family friendly event will feature line dancing lessons, bingo, raffles, face painting and gospel, soul and R&B music. Food trucks will offer hot dogs, chicken wings, rib tips and po boy polishes.
During the event, girls will deliver a positive, inspirational performance expressing themselves through music, songs and spoken word. Other popular, local youth will also take the stage to share their creative talents.
Proceeds will benefit 100 Girls, founded in 2020 to build self-esteem, confidence and awareness in girls, ages 5-17, providing them with necessary tools to successfully navigate their journeys through adulthood.
The organization provides weekly mentoring sessions for girls at 1226 Grand Blvd. in Aurora.
“Our goal is to inspire as many girls in the community as possible to believe in themselves, never give up on their dreams, and remain focused on their education regardless of the challenges they face,” said 100 Girls founder and president Linda Williams. “Our training sessions focus on topics that impact a girl's confidence/self-esteem including mental, physical health, effective communication, building relationships, etiquette, study techniques, and other key areas that impact the quality of life for girls.”
Vendors will include Ms. B’s Iced Tea. For information, visit 100girlslikeus.wordpress.com/about/.
