Democrats have far to go to restore faith

I read with interest your editorial on the Democratic Party, published on Sunday, June 8, and its need to change to be relevant with more people across the board. While I agreed with many of the points you made, one thing you did not mention enough are the shenanigans the Democrats have played over the years — particularly here in Illinois.

This last legislative session that just ended provided another case in point. The Democrats tried to pass an assisted suicide measure that was an amendment to a food service inspection bill. The bill passed the House but fortunately did not come up for vote in the Senate and, thus, did not pass.

Again, as in years past, the Democrats tried to sneak an immoral and anti-life measure embedded in another bill so that people wouldn’t notice — all without debate, public hearing and an overwhelming opposition from those who filed witness slips.

But all that doesn’t matter to the Democrats here in Illinois. All that matters is that they pass their socialist agenda in any way possible — regardless of what the citizenry thinks. From our illustrious Governor on down, make sure we get what we want and make it law. And people wonder why Illinois is one of the top states each year with people moving elsewhere.

People have long ago lost faith in government and there is a general lack of trust. If the Democratic Party wants to change (as well as the Republican Party for that matter), they have to restore faith and trust in proper governance and an adherence to the Constitution (both state and national) and not grovel to slight-of-hand methods to secure what they want.
