Kona Ice launches in Round Lake Beach at July 5 BeachFest

What began as Jessica Tcholakov’s first brand collaboration in her early days as a publicist has come full circle in the sweetest way.

She and her husband, Ivan, are launching their own Kona Ice business, bringing their new mobile shaved ice truck to Round Lake Beach and surrounding communities.

For Jessica Tcholakov, Kona Ice represents a personal milestone and the fulfillment of a longtime dream. She began her career in 2011 as a publicist, and Kona Ice was the first brand with which she worked.

“From the start, I was drawn to the joy, energy, and community spirit behind Kona Ice,” Tcholakov said. “Owning a truck has been a dream of mine for years, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support and partnership of my husband, Ivan. This is something we’ve built together, and I’m so proud of what it means for our family.”

Ivan immigrated to the United States from Bulgaria at age 7. For the couple, Kona Ice is more than just a business, it’s a chance to build something lasting for their family. Together, they see this venture as a legacy in the making for their three children: Chase, Khloe and Olivia.

“This is about building something lasting, for us and for our kids,” said Ivan. “We’re excited to bring smiles to our community while creating something meaningful for our family’s future.”

To celebrate the business’ launch, the Tcholakov family will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, July 5, at the kickoff of the Round Lake BeachFest.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Tcholakov family and Kona Ice to Round Lake Beach,” Mayor Scott Nickles said. “Their story is one of dedication, community spirit, and the kind of entrepreneurship that makes our town so special. We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with them at the BeachFest.”

Kona Ice is known for its colorful trucks, tropical tunes, and shaved ice. The business also partners with schools, youth sports leagues, and local organizations to raise funds and support communities. Since its inception, Kona Ice has given more than $200 million back to neighborhood schools, organizations, and teams.

Today, Kona Ice has grown to more than 1,900 trucks and nearly 3,000 points of sale serving 49 states. It is one of the top eight franchises in the U.S. by TheStreet.com, ranked on Entrepreneur’s “Fastest-Growing” franchises list multiple years in a row.
