After Hours Film Society to show a Zambian comedy-drama
The After Hours Film Society will host a screening of “On Becoming a Guinea Fowl” by writer/director Rungano Nyoni at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland Ave. in Downers Grove.
On an empty road in the middle of the night, Shula stumbles across the body of her uncle. As funeral proceedings begin around them, she and her cousins bring to light the buried secrets of their middle-class Zambian family, in Nyoni’s surreal and vibrant reckoning with the lies we tell ourselves.
David Rhodes and the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ Concerts have returned to the Tivoli stage, thanks to a generous grant from the JCS Arts, Health & Education Fund of DuPage Foundation.The organ lights up at 7 p.m. Come early and enjoy the music!

It will be followed by “The Ballad of Wallis Island” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 28. Charles, an eccentric lottery winner, lives alone on a remote island and dreams of getting his favorite musicians, McGwyer and Mortimer back together. His fantasy turns into reality when the bandmates and former lovers accept his invitation to play a private show at his home on Wallis Island. Old tensions resurface as Charles tries desperately to salvage his dream gig.
