Tafoya begins tenure as new superintendent for Mundelein districts 75 and 120
Corey Tafoya began work Tuesday as the new superintendent for Mundelein High School District 120 and Mundelein Elementary District 75.
After a national search, Tafoya was chosen in February from more than three dozen candidates to lead the two districts, which have been working in tandem under a shared-service model since 2019.
Tafoya, who served the previous eight years as superintendent of the K-12 Harvard Community District 50, replaces the retiring Kevin Myers, who assumed the dual role in the 2019-20 school year.
Tafoya was signed to a five-year contract with a starting base salary of $292,000.
He introduced himself in a letter Tuesday to families, staff and community members of both districts.
“As a bilingual educator, I was excited to find a pair of school districts in Mundelein that reflected my own values — equity, growth and collaboration,” he wrote.
He said he is “especially excited” to participate in activities, attend school and community events, and start conversations to continue positive momentum and help shape a shared vision for what’s next.
