Drivers avoid serious injuries in rollover crash in Gurnee

Drivers escaped serious injury after a two-vehicle rollover crash Tuesday morning at Washington Street and Route 21 in Gurnee, officials said.

According to Gurnee police, a Honda Civic headed west on Washington, driven by a 54-year-old man, entered the intersection with Route 21 at 7:35 a.m. as the light turned yellow.

At the same time, a Kia Sorrento headed east on Washington, driven by a woman, 23, tried to turn left to go north on Route 21. The Sorrento collided with the Civic and rolled onto its side and into a Toyota RAV 4, which was stopped in the southbound left-turn lane on Route 21.

The driver of the Honda Civic was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for an evaluation.

The Sorrento driver was ticketed for failure to yield while turning left.
