‘Laissez-faire’ policies dangerous

In economic and political contexts, laissez-faire refers to a policy of minimal government intervention in business and economic affairs — essentially “let the market do its thing.”

That issue is dramatically expressed in a recent Daily Herald article about the lack of speedy repairs to homes damaged by the garbage truck explosion in Arlington Heights. Also, the article about car owners who buy a car of poor value because that is all they can afford and the cars have hidden repair issues that turn them into junk. In turn, they still have to pay the cost of the car to the loan company.

Exposing these types of issues is what should be the primary role of all newspapers across this country. These issues also exist with medical insurance where deny, delay and don’t pay is their internal marketing policy. Laissez-faire is a basic tenet of the Republican Party and needs to be removed, because the average American in the USA doesn’t have a clue how sharp marketing tactics pick their pockets daily.

Currently, this should be the focus of state government to moderate and stop predator schemes from happening. What say you, Gov. Pritzker? Will you write meaningful legislation? What say you Daily Herald? Will you continue to expose those who take advantage of your readers? Will you educate your readers and not tell them what to think?
