Des Plaines man’s identity stolen for unemployment scam

Someone stole a Des Plaines man’s identity and filed for unemployment benefits, police said Monday.

The 62-year-old man told police he’d been contacted in mid-June by the Illinois Department of Employment Security about an unemployment claim.

The man told police he hadn’t requested benefits and was still employed.

The state agency said the person who filed the claim reported being unemployed as of May, however.
