Cougars top Dogs

The Kane County Cougars beat the Chicago Dogs 8-4 on Sunday at Northwestern Medicine Field in Geneva.

Dusty Stroup found himself on second base after a double to left center off Konnor Ash. Chance Sisco drove in Stroup to tie the game. An Andy Nelson homer gave the Dogs a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Cougars’ Josh Allen singled to lead off the inning. Marcus Chiu was then hit by a pitch. Armond Upshaw lined a single to load the bases. Tripp Clark singled in Allen and Chiu, tying the game 3-3. Claudio Finol drove in Upshaw and Clark, giving the Cougars a 5-3 lead. A Nick Dalesandro sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 6-3.

In the fifth inning, Oscar Santos doubled home a run to extend the Cougars’ lead to 7-3. The final run scored in the bottom of the eighth. Finol then picked up his third RBI with a single into center field.

Ash pitched seven innings and, after the three-run second, shut down the Dogs with five scoreless innings allowing just two hits. Logan Nissen Chicago in order in the eighth. Casey Crosby closed the game in the ninth.
