Palatine Fire Department offering ‘File of Life’ kits

The Palatine Fire Department is offering free “File of Life” kits to help first responders give you the care you need in an emergency.

The file includes your name, age, emergency contacts, current medications and dosages, and information about allergies and medical conditions. Once filled out, the form is placed in a red magnetic sleeve and stuck on your refrigerator — the first place paramedics look when entering a home.

Fire officials say the files help paramedics respond quickly and accurately, and is especially helpful for people with chronic illnesses, memory issues or complex medical needs.

To get one, stop by the fire department at 39 E. Colfax St. and ask for a kit.
