Woman used bad check to purchase SUV in Des Plaines, police say

A suburban woman is facing charges after she used a bad cashier’s check to purchase an SUV at a Des Plaines auto dealership, police said Friday.

Jamille Meyers, 36, of the 19000 block of Baker Avenue in Country Club Hills, was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony counts of forgery and theft by deception.

Meyers purchased a Land Rover Range Rover on June 23 at Jidd Motors Mitsubishi, 1313 Rand Road, according to a police news release.

But when an employee later tried to deposit the $47,707 check, police said, it was rejected.

The auto was reported stolen and later was discovered outside a house in South suburban Thornton. Police there called a tow truck to haul away the SUV, and Meyers was arrested after she exited the house, according to the news release.

Meyers was scheduled to appear Friday in Cook County circuit court for a detention hearing. Details weren’t available.
