Des Plaines man loses $500 in dog-selling scam
A Des Plaines resident was scammed out of $500 while trying to buy a dog over the internet, police said this week.
The man sent a $500 deposit to someone reportedly selling a dog using Facebook Marketplace on June 18, according to a police news release. After scheduling an appointment to pick up the dog, the purported seller demanded more money to complete the deal.
The purported seller then stopped communicating with the would-be buyer.
The scam was reported to police June 20.
