Chicago Dogs collect victory against Gary SouthShore
The Chicago Dogs opened their series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats with a 7-2 win Friday night, powered by timely hitting and a sharp outing from Connor Curlis.
Curlis, the Dogs’ ace, kept his cool on the mound, tossing five innings with just three hits and no walks before turning things over to the bullpen. The Dogs struck first in the third. Reggie Pruitt doubled, Kusiak singled, and Jacob Teter drove in Pruitt for his 22nd RBI of the season.
Brantley Bell added some pop in the fifth with a solo shot over the concourse to make it 2-0. Gary answered in the sixth when Joe Suozzi drove in Elvis Peralta against Dwayne Marshall, cutting the score to 2-1.
The Dogs fired back in the bottom of the inning. Teter came up big again with a 2-run double to score Kusiak and Pruitt, and Chance Sisco followed with an RBI hit to bring Teter home, stretching the lead to 5-1.
The Dogs padded their lead with the bases loaded when two walks by Teter and TJ Hopkins forced runs to make it 7-2. Brandon Scott pitched the ninth inning, solidifying the win for the Dogs.
