Family displaced after apartment fire in Elgin

A fire damaged an apartment unit at the River’s Landing apartment complex in Elgin Wednesday, displacing one family and causing an estimated $50,000 in damage.

The Elgin Fire Department responded just after 1:30 p.m. on June 18 to the complex at 3 Times Square Road to find black smoke coming from a first-floor unit. They were able to bring the fire under control in about 10 minutes, containing the blaze to just one unit. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The displaced family is receiving temporary housing assistance from Hanover Township Emergency Services. Other residents were able to return to their homes.
