Costly education cuts are assault on liberty

“The secret of freedom lies in educating people whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant.” — Maximillien Robespierre

Our own Mercedes Arias, educated in Woodstock schools, has been chosen for a prestigious Fulbright program scholarship and is due to depart for Mexico City on June 25. The scholarship includes airfare, tuition, meals and lodging. Upon her return, she will student teach at Dean Elementary School as a bilingual educator, serving her community.

Or, she is supposed to. The Department of Education has canceled the Fulbright-Hayes program that’s been in existence since 1961. This is another assault on the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness that this administration is reigning down on all of us. When will it end?
