Thieves take jewelry from pedestrian in Des Plaines

Two people in a black van stole jewelry from an 82-year-old Des Plaines man while he was walking in the suburb, police said Tuesday.

The theft occurred about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, near Oakton and Chestnut streets, according to a news release. After getting out of the van, one of the thieves leaned in to kiss the man, stopped and then showed him a bracelet, police said.

She then left in the van with a male accomplice and with the victim’s gold bracelet and gold ring, police said.

The victim didn’t remember how they took his jewelry, police reported. The pieces were valued at $3,500.
