59-year old Gurnee man identified as pedestrian struck and killed while walking on Washington Street

A pedestrian who died after being stuck by a vehicle Monday night in Gurnee has been identified as 59-year-old Richard Bennett, of Gurnee.

According to the Lake County coroner’s office, autopsy results show Bennett died from blunt force injures as a result of the crash at about 10 p.m. on Washington Street near Route 21.

Bennett was walking east on Washington Street and was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction, police said. He was found unresponsive in eastbound lanes and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
